and so this is thanksmas11.28.10

it so happened that this year it worked out that neither jeremy nor i would be home for christmas. mine was b/c lillis wants to alternate years, so we’re going with her family to park city for christmas. that’s all fine and well, but my mom had gone 36 straight years with her children home at christmas. so, i decided we would create a new mega-holiday. we would celebrate thanksgiving on thursday, pray that God proved he hated cam newton as much as we did on friday, and then celebrate the first thanksmas on saturday. friday didn’t work out quite like we’d planned, but at least saturday was nice. : )

a few pics from the game are below. thanks again to jason for pulling me seats for 3 of the big games this year….penn state, florida and auburn.

here mcelroy completes a pass. that lets you know that this picture is from the 1st half.

here we have a couple of touchdowns…..obviously also first half.

we left right after that. i’m not sure how the game turned out. i’m going to assume we won.

we put up all the christmas decorations…..

…..and then on saturday morning, the very first thanksmas was born. here mom reads the story from luke about how the pilgrims found jesus laying in a manger

lillis couldn’t have been any more excited if it had been christmas.

the tree looked lovely

i obviously trend towards less excitement than lil

my mom had wanted to get a few shots of the family in for her christmas card, so we squeezed these in just before jeremy and jessica had to take off for the airport.

mama, looks good in the houndstooth, holding the pigskin.

i gotta say, i wasn’t quite ready for christmas yet, but thanksmas was good. i think if had started listening to some christmas music, or just watched elf, or national lampoons a week or two earlier, i’d have been full of thanksmas cheer. all in all, though, i’m pleased with the results.

Downhome Christmas12.26.09

lest lillis go more than a few days without being spoiled, we headed down to satsuma for christmas. she loves going to visit the parents, not just b/c we have easy access to the dollar general store right next to the house, but b/c she gets absolutely spoiled. she gets to eat great meals all day long, everyone is nice to her and she gets lots of presents. she loves it! it’s also a lot more peaceful than life in atlanta and she gets to just chill out. no place to go and nothing to do. and i like it when she smiles, so we’re all good.
mom was insistent that lillis needed a stocking. i am bummed i didn’t think to have them misspell her name on it
we went over to my grandparent’s trailer in mississippi (anyone reading this who has ever heard me describe my previous desire to be on the bachelor so that i could take the film crews here will remember it) so that the girls could shoot guns. jeremy and jessica and lillis and i all squeezed off a few rounds, mortally wouning a cardboard box, and iron spindle and an old refrigerator drawer. lillis liked this picture of her, b/c she says her face looks mean. she was firing my mom’s snub nose here, but was a crack shot with the .22 ruger and the .22 long rifle. the .357 on the other hand scared the bejeezus out of her, leading to her refusal to fire the 30 aught 6 and the 12 gauge. NOTE: if you’re reading this on facebook, you have to actually click onto my blog (or at www.charlesbreland.com) in order to be able to view the videos.

on the way out, one of my dad’s cousins had made him promise that we would stop by and pick up some green onions and some turnip greens. the ladies found this surprisingly enjoyable. lillis absoutely loves uprooting things…..i honsetly don’t have any idea why

i snapped one shot of some hay bails before we headed out. oh, and there’s a road there that has a name you may recognize!

Christmas Card ’09 featuring Lillis12.24.09

Merry Christmas one and all! We’re so glad for all of you who have been a part of our lives this year. Our friends have been wonderfully supportive this year, and in particular I’d like to give shoutouts to Brian, Bryan, Rod and Matt for all their job search help.

It’s been a wonderful first year of marriage, but not one without difficulty. We’re still learning and growing and hope to continue to do so until one of us buries the other. It really has been more amazing than we had ever hoped……moreso for me than for Lillis. She was worth the wait!

Work kept us from making as many trips as we’d like this year, but we did get to take one big trip to California, spending 9 days in San Fran, Yosemite and Tahoe.

Both of us had a sibling get married and I launched my photography website and got to do a decent bit of picture taking this year. I’m back to coaching (15 year olds this season) and Lillis is counseling people in financial distress through our church’s Moneywise program.

We’re currently considering buying a house and just trying to make sure we treasure every day together.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video. Oh, and if you want to watch it full size, there’s a link below to watch it on the Vimeo site……word!
