as my friend dietze and i have discussed for years……cnbc is an entertainment network, masquerading as a news network, masquerading as your financial advisor. in reality, they are comedy central for guys who like finance. while jon stewart is notorious for attacking easy targets with great bluster and with little desire to actually seek any kind of resolution other than self-satisfied indignation for himself, i did really enjoy these clips…..the last one is a bit long, but it is sad and is worth watching if only to remind ourselves that the way to make money is to work. the way to make more money is to save that money you made working. the way to retire with money is to invest that money wisely (the s&p traded as spdr’s would do)……..and in so doing remember that if anybody had a foolproof way to get huge returns, they wouldn’t be sharing it with you. they’d be doing (as a colleague of one of my finance professors did) leaving their employer or graduate program, exploiting the hole in the system for as long as it lasted and then sailing around the world on a boat. oh, and the second video starts a little slow but is getting good by a couple of minutes in. then it becomes….well, just watch and see.
oh, and PS, it looks like youtube had to pull their copy of the first (shorter) clip, so i found the hulu version.
and then hulu pulled theirs, so this is my last attempt at capturing some of this.

short post here…..we went to park city to celebrate jeremy’s bachelor party (he gets married in late may – i should know the date).
it wasn’t as wild as it might have been 5 years ago, but neither am i. we spent most of our time on the mountain or in the “hot pool”. that sounds a little gross, but it is just a pool, that is kept hot tub hot, not any sort of fetish-thing. so, it mostly consisted of hit the slopes all day long, then drink some beers in the pool and overpay through the nose for food at night before going to sleep and doing it all over again the next day. i was a little stunned that every restaurant in Park City is still WAY over priced and way packed. numerous places told us they could seat us at 5pm or 11pm, but not in between. it seems they are not aware there is a recession going on. maybe mitt’s people have something figured out and we should have listened to him…..i dunno?
anyway, we had a good time and returned with no serious injuries – no small feat indeed. the video below has a few clips of us snowboarding and several of us making fun of cory (who was a very good sport). enjoy
