tour of texas

Posted in Uncategorized on Jul 23, 2008

lillis wanted us to do a celebratory tour of texas so that she could show me off to all the natives. i was dissapointed that not one of her family members was wearing either boots or a cowboy hat. i expected more. first stop was lubbock. here lillis is in the backyard of her parents house. i did mention she was excited to show me off, right? THIS is how excited she was!

lil and i went to visit her mother’s mother the first day there. here we all are in the backyard of her house. she has a baby grand piano which she assured us is lillis’ whenever lillis has a house big enough. um, it’s not gonna fit in the condo, but we’ll keep saving for a bigger place.

so, lubbock was every bit as flat as promised. i mean, this is about as flat as it gets.

it was, however, much cooler in temperature than i had anticipated. we had a pretty good time there, seeing both her grandmothers and the parents and her younger sister. after that we headed on down the state towards austin, stopping along the way to see an old accenture friend in san angelo.

our second night in austin we met up with lauren and berkley there. we had a great time, stopping for drinks at the hotel san jose, and then having dinner at south congress cafe. the food was AWESOME and it was actually a bit cheaper than it would have been in atlanta.

in austin we went to visit the capitol. lillis tells me it’s the tallest capitol in the US. not surprising : )

we went up to 360 bridge…

why? so lillis could do yoga poses (as featured in the photos from the trip at this link).

here, i took lillis swimming at barton springs in austin. it was EXTREMELY necessary b/c it was about a million degrees there. they put our drought to shame. our drought is still green. their’s is dry and brown. it’s one heck of a summer there right now. the springs were great, though. the water was 70 degrees and it was a great time.

we then headed on to dallas. dallas was actually hotter than austin. i thought my skin was gonna peel back. i’m not kidding. i also had no idea that it was so big. i did get to meet three of lillis’ very good friends and an old family friend of hers as well. it was a great trip (albeit a busy one) and it was good to get to meet more of her friends and family.

    • Camping Weekend June 9, 2007
