it occurred to me late in the summer that i had not yet taken lillis skiing (actually, september is fall, right?) so i asked jason if we could head over to tuscaloosa for the weekend and hit the lake at his father in law’s lake house. we had a great weekend, getting in in time to watch the women’s volleyball team play, we spent the whole day on the lake the next day, and then watched bama whip up on uga, before going to my cousin’s “animal house” style off-campus fraternity party. we headed back home the next day. btw, the lake is freakin ridiculously posh…..mansion after mansion (including the one that belongs to coach saban). jason’s place has a incline that carts you down to the water. fancy.
here we are out on the inflatable tow-behind thing that jason pulled with the boat. michael’s in the middle, and those are lillis’ legs.
i caught this one in midflight as rocky actually got jason, lillis and michael into some MAJOR air. michael was the only survivor of this one.
here’s some video of the preceding.
here’s the view from the pool of the lake. really nice. i need to buy me one of these.

so, brad and i headed up to nyc for one reason and one reason only…..catch a yankees game before they shut venerable yankee stadium down. brad booked the flights while i was in asia (lots of things happened when i wasn’t around). we took off on a tuesday AM and came back the next evening. so, we expected to see the yankees and sox, but totally didn’t anticipate also getting to see the naked cowboy in times square – what a treat.
and we certainly didn’t think we’d run into matthew lesko (the guy from tv who “TEACHES YOU HOW TO GET MONEY FROM THE GOVERNMENT”) while at the uniqlo store…..btw, uniqlo is a japanese brand that has recently come across to a couple of US locations and has some pretty sweet cashmere sweaters and stuff at great prices. worth checking out when you go to nyc – if you’re into that sort of thing.
coming out of the store and heading south, brad and i went down to one of my favorite nyc spots, the trinity church, downtown. here’s a flag placed in front of alexander hamilton’s grave.
that night it was off to yankee stadium (as seen from monument park)
here is the video from the yankees game where a vendor tries to take brad down
here are brad, larry not the legend (who had been working nearby) and me at the game’s end.
that night we met up with bp (who was graciously allowing us to stay in his posh suite in times square) and were out eating sushi in midtown til well past 2.
the next morning, we had realized that the us open was in town. we didn’t have any big plans for the day, so we decided to walk over and scalp tix. anyway, ont he trip over we stopped by one of my other favorite views in nyc, st patricks from below the feet of atlas.
and then out to flushing meadows. we got center court seats and took in the number one ranked player in the world, jelena jankovic
then we saw the number 3 ranked guy (djokovic) before we headed over to the side courts to watch some of the lesser players
we then hopped a cab, hopped a plane and got home in time for a late dinner with lillis – a great two day tour.
right after i got back from asia (during which, btw, lillis selected photographers, site for our wedding and a caterer – the site which she had me looking at pictures for while on a web conference from a cafe in saigon) bryan and lyndsay, drew and blake, brad and aimee and doug and mc threw us an engagement party at doug and mc’s old condo in midtown.
here’s a picture of us from that night…..with me wearing my new vietnam shirt and illis looking lovely as ever.
pictured here are sara, aimee, lil and blake. not pictued, but probalby on the floor just out of the camera’s site was sara’s new baby, kenley
here are jason and mo, blake, drew and brad out on the balcony
at this point, i could give a shoutout to the party organizers….bryan’s been a great friend for a long time and helped on more than one occasion to further my career at accenture, and lyndsay went above and beyond (moreso than any other friend’s significant other) to keep me included after they got married (back when i was still a single schlub). i could barely count the number of times they shepherded me out (until lynds got sleepy at 10pm). drew has been a great friend over the last three years and has been a great source of advice and support and is responsible for getting me back into church. blake has been wonderful to lillis and has really embraced her over the last year and a half. brad has been phenomenel tech support and has been a good friend spanning activities from college basketball, to roomate, to photography, to computer crap, and aimee allowed brad to take me in after my sinus surgery, even consenting to have them sleep in the den with me when i was freaking out. doug has been a great friend and organizer of numerous amazing trips and parties (as well as a supplier of countless free ga tech tickets 🙂 and mc has been wonderful, from her previous offers to select my wife for me, to the one she made last summer to employ my wife (even though she didn’t select lillis for me).
the party was wonderful and i’m thankful to all of the hosts and the other friends who showed up to celebrate our relationship.

sooooo, i was able to convince john and stephen that it would be a good idea for us to spend a weekend out in the woods with no food and no hair dryers (more a concern for stephen than for me - and less so every day). we found our way up to the greater […]
we went to huntsvegas for our end of the season volleyball tourney with the tsunami club i've been working with. below are a few picks of my team (13 black). we had a tough opening day, but did manage to upset the #1 seed in the tournament on day 2 before bowing out.below, allie poses […]
i took a second trip to nicaragua in april. this time brent nix (the mystery 4th in our group) and john headed down as well. it was john's 3rd trip and we were taking a look at a couple of places that he had visited before as well as some new places that peter wanted […]
sorry, no pics for this one. soooo, Atlanta was hosting the inagural ING marathon on March 25th. several of my friends had been training for months, but i had been nursing a sore leg and had not jogged for about 2 months. for some reason my friends (most notably jason, drew and blake) thought it […]
well, i'm sure everyone was jonesin for an update on the fantasy baseball draft update. i know it's like a monkey on my back. well, we were very excited that our draft angel was still there this year and had not indeed been killed by the fans of the Dominican team last year. as you […]
soooo, i decided to wing on up to DC to check out the WHO at Verizon Center with my friends Jeff and Todd and my brother Jeremy. We had a pretty fun weekend there, highlighted by either the girl who claimed she had political asylum, or the one whose belt was "Hermes" (as i was […]

soooo, as you may know (if YOU are indeed reading this, and it's entirely possible you're not) i am now coaching volleyball. i'm coaching a girls 13's team that plays out of Woodward. often times those practices are the highlight of my week. there's something really amazing about having 12 people scream your name every […]
i usually try not to really mention what i'm thinking here, as it is my general supposition that no one really cares, but today will be an exception. i'm not even going to pretend that any more than 3 people in america might find me insiteful, but i figured i'd just put it out here. […]
nothing really to tell here. drew and i went fishing. i caught my first bass (more of a fly fisherman, i am)you may remember my phat hat as being the same one i won for catching a barracuda on drew's bachelor party. it still looks every bit as good as it did the day i […]
