Can I suppose a million things,
And dare to dream of heartfelt dreams,
Conjured thoughts of love and life,
Building castles in the sky?
For this is love to big for Earth.
It soars and flies and will not perch.
Where else but on a cloud to live,
Where billowed pillows respite give?
Then off again on angel’s wings,
Dance to songs played on heart strings.
Soaring, reaching every high,
Two loves entwine, and two souls sigh,
Content to in the moment live,
Eternal in the love they give,
Finally finding Love’s lost lift,
Finally sharing Life’s greatest gift.
Into the deepest waters dive,
Knowing that we will survive,
Rough winds, tossed seas rage and scream,
But distant like some airy dream.
Not in the dream of life we know,
For with a kiss you calm the boat.
The storms they can not penetrate,
The steadfast fort that love creates,
A base from where the battle’s fought,
A place to grow what God hath wrought,
A fertile land where hopes come true,
Where in a field lie I and you,
And smell the flower’s potent ply,
And for to rest we close our eyes.
And what can wake us from the spell?
No power on Earth nor none in Hell.
That leaving Heav’n we’re sure to win.
For where else did this Love begin?
Who touched your lips? Who touched my heart?
Who gave us inauspicious start?
But oh, what planted acorns plan,
Could grow a tree the size of man
And woman’s love to vast to grasp?
If you were breath then I would gasp,
And try to swallow ever more,
Inhaling ‘til my lungs were sore.
And so I hold you as we lie.
You must forgive me if I cry.
For you have solved the riddle giv’n,
The reason I was born to live.
To love you, kiss you, hold you tight,
From now until we both shall die.
And until then, all I will do,
Each breath, each act scream, “I love you!”
So softly angel fall to sleep,
Then wake with me and live our dream.
